The eye is a complex optical system in higher organisms which collects light from the surrounding environment, regulates its intensity through a diaphragm, focuses it through an adjustable assembly of lenses to form an image, converts this image into a set of electrical signals and transmits them to the brain.
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases which result in damage to the optic nerve and cause vision loss. The optic nerve is responsible for the transmission of information from your eyes to your brain, and damage associated with it can lead to severe vision loss, and in the worst case, blindness. In the case of acute closed angle glaucoma, symptoms will be sudden and severe, including:
Ocular hypertension occurs when the pressure in the eye (known as intraocular pressure)Is above the range considered normal (often defined as above 21 mm Hg). It is distinguished
from glaucoma, a more serious eye condition, in that there are no detectable changes in vision,
no evidence of visual field loss, and no damage to the optic nerve. Patients diagnosed with ocular
hypertension have an increased risk of developing glaucoma.
Dry eye occurs when either the eye does not produce enough tears or when the tears evaporate too quickly.
Regardless of the cause of dry eye, the signs and symptoms are similiar.
Allergies are your body’s natural response to certain medications or substances. They may occur during particular seasons of the year, or year round. If you suffer from allergies, your eyes may be affected too in response to antigen exposure.
